In Week 1 of our new series, The Fruit of the Spirit, Pastor Chuck Tate begins in Galatians 5 by contrasting two ways to live: walking according to the flesh or walking according to the Spirit.

Being spiritually gifted is not the same as being spiritually mature. God doesn’t only want to use us—He wants to change us.

And the first evidence Paul gives us is love.

✅ Fruit Requires Connection to Jesus — A branch cannot produce fruit apart from the vine. Spiritual fruit grows as we remain connected to Christ and learn to walk in the Spirit.

You can have charisma without character.

You can be gifted and still be immature.

You can preach, teach, prophesy, lead, or speak in tongues—but without love, Paul says it becomes nothing more than noise.

The world will not know we belong to Jesus because of how gifted we are.

They will know we are His disciples by how we love.

So stay connected to Jesus.

Walk in the Spirit.

Choose forgiveness.

Love difficult people.

And allow the Holy Spirit to form the character of Christ in you.
